Maya Dance

‘Everyone connects to life in their own way, in their own conversation with the world,’ said Flora. She lifted her arms gracefully into the air. ‘Every action you take, every thought you have, is part of your exchange with everything around you.’
Flora held my hands and drew me into the circle of glowing Maya cast around her. The night was full of music, with the rush of the wind, the rustling of the leaves, and the rumble of the earth beneath me. And in it, I felt its power.
‘Don’t be shy,’ she said, and together we began to dance. I trampled the tension from my body into the ground, and I lost control, no longer thinking, only moving, embracing the night with my arms. I felt a need to shout out, to tell the world I was here, that I was strong, that I wanted to help, to entwine with life in whatever form it would take.
The glow intensified and from it threads appeared. They wrapped around me and I felt warmth on my skin, comforting, like I was a part of it and it in me. I felt my body melt and become part of everything, cloaked in the light, once again a part of the Maya stream, lost in the voices all around me.

An illustration of a scene from my in-progress fourth Realms of Feilahn book, where Dew learns to deepen her connection with the Maya stream, the life force that runs throughout the world.
